Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
